Are you passionate about science outreach? Do you love amazing children with impressive science experiments? Do you want to meet like-minded people who share your interests? If you say ‘Yes’ to any of these, why not volunteer with us?
What opportunities do you have?
There is a whole range of ways you can get involved with us including:
- Acting as a general volunteer at our events
- Event management and organisation
- Event promotion, including social media
- Fundraising and writing grant proposals
If there is something which you particularly want to gain experience of, then please do tell us so that we can make sure you have the opportunity to develop these skills and make your volunteering experience work for you.
Do I need any previous experience?
You don’t need any previous experience or even a background in science to volunteer with us. Our volunteers come from all backgrounds and include a diverse mix of ages and nationalities. For events that involve practical activities, full training will be given. On the other hand, if you are a seasoned science communicator and have your own ideas for events, we can help you make them happen!
What is the commitment?
You can volunteer as much or as little as you like, to fit in around your work or studies. Usually, our public events take place in the evenings and weekends and you can choose the hours that you volunteer for. Most of the planning for these events takes place in our branch meetings on Wednesday evening. Don’t worry if you can’t make these meetings; you can still volunteer for our events. As long as you are on our email mailing list, we will send you all the information you need.
